Presentation:
The shaman was both an admired
and feared person. He/she performed ritual ceremonies inside the iglu where meetings and games took
place. The shaman took care of illnesses, instigated confessions, predicted the
future, and knew how to invoke good spirits and ward off bad ones, in
particular those of the dead that wander too close to the living. The shaman
also knew how to influence the temperature. Through the qilaniq ritual people could learn from
the shaman their life expectancy.
